June 2015 - Celebrate Summer with Our Nordic Collection's Swedish Reds

Midsummer Day, celebrated this year on June 20, is Sweden's beloved national holiday. It marks the beginning of summer and virtually every Swede heads for the country for their vacation. Tradition dictates the gathering of flowers for garlands and the raising of a maypole for favorite songs and folk dances. The heart of of Sweden's folk culture is Dalarna province, where small red summer houses, painted Falun red, dot the countryside. My grandfather built his own tiny summer cabin when he emigrated from Dalarna to a small town north of Seattle, painting it traditional Swedish Falun red.

This month's Swedish Reds Color Story includes our newest patterns inspired by Scandinavian textiles' patterns and colors. Folklore is a large scale geometric pattern while Cozy is a softly textured solid in complementary colors. Both fabrics are safely cleaned with harsh chemicals or bleach solution, making them ideal for interiors demanding high performance products. Turkish Delight is a PVC-free polyurethane with a smooth, soft hand. Our very affordable Trevira™ CS upholstery fabrics Hue, Duo and Melange look like classic Scandinavian wools. Inherently flame retardant, they are also recommended for vertical application such as drapery and wall covering. Available in the brightest hues or rich heathered tones, these fabrics will bring your favorite color to any interior space.
